There is a happy ending to our turtle story! The folks from Toronto Wildlife Centre called us this morning to tell us our turtle turned out to be fine. After an examination, they found a small crack on her shell and an abrasion on her tail, but that she would be fine and should be released as soon as possible so she can lay her eggs. Would we like to release her?
Well, yes, but we’re kinda in a hurry today, getting ready to head out for the weekend. So on their way to other releases, they dropped her off up the street from us where we found her and called us just before they arrived so we could be part of the release. They let her go right into the water on the side of the road to which she had been headed when she was injured. We watched her swim around a little, come back and look right at us, and then disappear in the murky water.
I know she really wasn’t saying goodbye or thank you, but you can’t tell my kids that. What a great homeschool day!
